The term "OEM plus" comes from the style of modifying Volkswagen and Audi vehicles with factory parts that are not offered in the North American market. This is where the "OEM" part comes from; Original Equipment Manufacturer. The "plus" is added because the end result is a factory-correct vehicle with improvements over the stock configuration. This trend originated in the mid-90's and has gained momentum ever since.
The OEM plus theme normally includes things like alternative bumpers, improved EU lighting, wheels, interior and exterior trim. As cars become increasingly complex, it is starting to include electronic packages that are retrofitted like navigation systems, rear-view cameras, parking sensors and Bluetooth phone systems.
This style of modification has often been difficult to pull off, as the parts required are not normally available in North America and sourcing them can be difficult at best.
